Viña Errazuriz

Our Don Maximiano Estate is 60km inland from the Pacific Ocean, 530 metres above sea level and lies at 32º 45´ South.

The Estate totals 169 hectares divided into 6 vineyards: Max I to Max VI, which are mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Carmenère, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc; some vines are nearly 40 years old and one entire block (Max 3) is organically farmed. All the blocks benefit from north facing slopes with gradients of up to 50°, these slopes capture the sun’s rays perfectly.

To ensure that each and every part of the Estate gives its best, vine density varies enormously ranging from 1,800 to 10,000 vines per hectare, with the average being 4,200. Most vines are trained using a vertical trellis system. Lyre, sprawl and gobelet training systems are also used on the Estate.

The Valley’s climate mandate the use of a drip irrigation system ensuring the vines thrive in the regions dry, sunny weather.

Plant density, irrigation patterns and harvest times are determined according to the different vigour patterns that have been detected with the use of precision viticulture.
